Victoryland to reopen on Friday

TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA)- VictoryLand Greyhound Racing in Shorter will reopen their simulcast racing facilities on Friday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. with pari-mutuel wagering beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The announcement was made in a press release this morning.

In the release, VictoryLand President Milton McGregor was quoted as saying, "We are happy to reopen and put some of our employees back to work.  It is a great loss of income to many more of our employees who have lost their jobs due to the illegal forced closing on Feb. 19th by the Alabama Attorney General.  At one time we employed approximately 2,000 people at VictoryLand, and I'm looking forward to having all of them back at work here as soon as possible."

VictoryLand was raided on February 19, bingo machines were confiscated and the facility was shut down.  The raid was conducted by Alabama State Troopers and the Alabama Attorney General's office.
