8th Annual George Washington Carver Arts and Crafts Festival

Held each Mother's Day weekend in Downtown Tuskegee, the festival welcomes thousands of visitors who gather to commemorate the legacy and works of world reknown scientist, artist and inventor Dr. George Washington Carver and enjoy arts, crafts, a parade, vendors, food and lots of entertainment. Tom Joyner, radio personality (Tom Joyner Morning Show), philanthropist, to deliver Tuskegee commencement address to over 600 graduates.

Sunday, May 8 at 9:30 a.m.

Tuskegee University campus: Daniel "Chappie" James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education. Doors open 7:30 a.m. Only those with tickets/credentials will be allowed in the arena, and must be seated by 8:30 a.m. The processional of students and faculty will begin at 8:45 a.m. from Kresge Center to the James Center.

The Induction of Teacher Education Candidates will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6 in the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.  The speaker for the event will be Theodore Samuel, president of the Macon County Board of Education.   

Radio personality, philanthropist Tom Joyner to deliver Tuskegee commencement address

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (April 29, 2011) – Tuskegee University will graduate more than 500 students during its annual Commencement Exercises in the Daniel "Chappie" James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 8 . According to the Office of the Registrar, degrees conferred included the Doctor of Philosophy; Doctor of Veterinary Medicine; Master of Science; Bachelor of Arts; and Bachelor of Science. This will be the first commencement ceremony for the university’s fifth president, Gilbert L. Rochon, who officially took the helm of the institution in November 2010.

Because of the damage and loss of life suffered in our state yesterday, any donation ($5 minimum) you make at tonight's Montgomery Dragon Boat Race & Festival 2011 Registration Kick-Off will go directly to Red Cross Alabama's Tornado Relief efforts.

President Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to deliver keynote at architecture school dedication

Tuskegee University will officially dedicate the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science on April 8-9. Activities include a symposium and black-tie banquet featuring a keynote speech by Valerie B. Jarrett, senior adviser to President Barack Obama.

Jarrett will talk about her connection to the university through her great-grandfather, the legendary architect for whom the architecture school is named.
