What a wonderful day for a Deborah Cannon Wolfe Elementary School second grade student! Shakayla Washington, who is a seven-year old at Deborah Cannon Wolfe in Shorter, Alabama, wrote to President Barack Obama at the White House last month and never thought she would get a reply. Well, she did. Shakayla was sent an official letter from President Obama, along with an autographed photo of him, a picture of the White House, and some Presidential stickers. At the request of her parents and grandparents, the letter was presented to Shaykala at school in the presence of her peers. The letter was presented by Superintendent Jacqueline A. Brooks, Principal Mason McDade, and Shakayla's mother, her maternal grandparents and her paternal grandparents. On hand were Shorter's Mayor, Willie Mae Powell; school board member, Mary Hooks; other school system administrators and leaders; the faculty of Deborah Cannon Wolfe and the student body.
