Local teachers to be honored tonight as part of the national Teacher Wall project

Local teachers to be honored tonight as part of the national Teacher Wall project

WVAS-FM, the Voice of Alabama State University and a a National Public Radio station, will host a dinner in honor of a select group of local teachers tonight, Sept.18, at 6 p.m. at the Capital City Club.
This event is the culminating activity of the nation's Teacher Wall project.

Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and launched in 2011, the Teacher Wall project enables teachers to share their ideas and add their voices to the national education conversation in an online space.

WVAS-FM was awarded a grant in March 2012 from the National Center for Media Engagement and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to participate in the project.

Using a combined rural/minority teacher theme, WVAS project coordinators Temeki Tolbert and Vydreon Moon traveled to schools in Alabama’s Black Belt region, as well as to two Montgomery County schools, to conduct interviews with recommended honorees.
